This is what was happening at Victoria Pier on the 16th May in years gone by...

 

1933 Just after midnight, the driver of a goods train nearing the railway station saw sparks and flames over the sea and sounded the alarm by repeated sharp blasts on the whistle of his steam train. By the time the fire brigade arrived it was too late. The 2nd Pavilion was completely destroyed by fire.
