14th May

This is what was happening at Victoria Pier on the 14th May in years gone by...

1933 (Sunday) Jack Hylton and his Orchestra opened on tour at the Pavilion. This departure from the Council's tradition of high-standard music on Sundays had been strongly criticised by local Church leaders and by many others who had retired to the town in search of more sedate entertainment. The Pier Pavilion, however, was packed.
